FOMA basestations are improving

I am getting a more consistent network availability from FOMA W-CDMA network here in Fukuoka while using non-Motorola handset.

As I wrote in the past, DoCoMo as the company who began world’s first commercial deployment of W-CDMA used the revision 99 in the firmwares of the basestations. This prevents current handsets, other than Motorola ones, to connect to it.

But it seems that DoCoMo has done much of the updating work, that a small town like where I live now has a signal that is compatible with non-Motorola handsets. On the picture here I am using Samsung handset loaded with Indosat’s Matrix card, which previously was unable to log into FOMA network due to the above basestation’s firmware problem.
